Visiting the Bee Hives

We took a walk to observe the resident colony of bees at our school. We were surprised at how much activity there was at the entrance to the hive. Bees were all around the entrance way to each of the hives and we wondered if they were guarding the hives against any unwelcome creatures or bees from a different colony.

Yummy Jam Sandwiches

We were looking forward to having our Drama day with Mrs Oldham today but sadly she was not well. She will be coming back when she is better and hopefully we'll get to enact the "Giant Jam Sandwich" that she is planning to involve us in. Instead, we had our own giant sandwich big book story. In pairs, we spread butter and strawberry jam on slices of bread and then we had a picnic in the hive to taste our creations.

Room 25, Our Buddy Class

We met our buddies from Room 25 today. They are a lovely group of Year 5 children and their teacher is Mrs Beukens. Some of us are lucky enough to have two buddies but most of us have just one. We enjoyed introducing ourselves and finding out more about our buddy. It was interesting to see how much we actually had in common. Our classes will meet each Wednesday from 2:25pm til 2:55pm and we will alternate the classroom we will get together in. Looking forward to an exciting, encouraging year of learning with our buddies!

Chris, the Turtle visits Room 5

It was so wonderful having Austin's special turtle visit our class today!! Thanks ever so much to Mr Lee for taking the trouble to transport and spend time bringing Chris. He was in his tank, happily swimming around and Austin told us many facts about his very special pet. Chris eats a variety of food - fish, shrimps, turtle pellets and mealy bugs. He is one year old and has almost tripled his size! Chris is a male and is black, whereas female turtles are green. Chris is a reptile and loves to rest on a rock. He enjoys clambering on a bridge in his tank at home. From there he dives down in the water. Mr Lee held Chris and let the children touch his shell. After that Chris took a walk on a towel and was keen to go walkabout to explore the classroom! What a delightful creature he is! It was so wonderful having Austin's special turtle visit our class today!!
