Magic Milk

Sometimes experiments don't quite work and we discovered that when we tried the experiment using milk, food colour and dishwashing liquid. Instead of reading the label on the bottle, Mrs Shewring took a bottle of oil and presumed that was dishwashing liquid! needless to say, the experiment didn't work! As all good scientists do, we tested the experiment again but this time, with all the correct ingredients! We were enthralled by the results. From our butter making experiment we had learned that milk and cream have fat in them and when we add dishwashing liquid to the fat, it breaks up the fat particles. That's why the food colour reacted to the dishwashing liquid but not to the oil.
