Our Giraffe Drawings

While our classmates were at their ESOL Language class, the rest of us enjoyed drawing these pictures of giraffes on our whiteboards. They are gorgeous, aren't they?

Maths Week

This week we are having a different experience of mathematics by visiting other classes and enjoying a new focus. On Monday Miss Kassan introduced us to Co-ordinates and how we read grids. We plotted some shapes on a grid and then used various computer links to try our hand at working with co-ordinates.

On Tuesday we were in Room 6 and we designed and made our own containers for capacity where we measured with rice.

On Wednesday we made paper clocks in Room 10 and we are getting fast at showing the time in hours and half hours.

An Experiment with Skittles

It is always a treat watching the way Skittles begin to melt and to see the bright colours merge like a rainbow towards the centre of the plate! We used two plates of Skittles - one with cold water and one with hot water. To begin with, we used the cold water and we enjoyed watching the colours begin to flow. We agreed that because Skittles are coated with food colour, fruit and sugar, all those ingredients were beginning to dissolve. That's what caused the colourful patterns. The hot water made the Skittles dissolve much faster but the pattern was not as bright because it mixed together more quickly.

Dancing Raisins Experiment

Mrs Shewring demonstrated how to make a dancing raisins experiment. We mixed baking soda and vinegar together in water and the mixture began to make lots of bubbles. There were raisins in the glass and they were carried up to the surface of the water. Then the bubbles popped and the raisins dropped down again where there were still more bubbles. That's how the raisins were going up and down and looking like they were dancing!

Lego's 90th Birthday!

We celebrated the 90th anniversary of Lego by doing a 90 second challenge. That was tricky but then we really got into the swing of things and we created our own designs. When the time was up, we showed our wonderful pieces to our classmates and explained what they were and how they worked.

Visiting the Life Education Caravan

It has been fascinating to visit Harold and his friends in the caravan. We had two sessions and learned so much about how we could learn to be resilient.

We
