Happy Diwali and The Dark and Light Show

Mrs Naicker arrived in her most beautiful dress, wearing a decorative bindi on her forehead and many bracelets on her arms in order to celebrate Diwali. She very kindly brought some home made sweetmeets for us to enjoy and also explained what her family do at Diwali. She answered our questions and we gained so many insights into this wonderful time of the year. We also enjoyed looking at the pretty Rangoli patterns made by Room 16.

Auckland Theatre Company visited us again this year and this time they presented a story about Diwali and featured Princess Sita and Prince Rama who finally defeated the demon, Ravana, with the help of powerful gods and an army of monkeys. The children were enthralled by the talented actors who kept them riveted as the story unfolded.

Letters from our Buddies at Onekawa School!!

We received a large envelope in the post and knew straight away that it was our special Room 3 Buddy Class at Onekawa school who had so kindly written to us. They told us of their busy third term and how they had enjoyed a wonderful hangi and successful Art Exhibition.

As always, each child had written a special letter, carefully sealed inside an envelope with a pretty sticker. These are always so well received and appreciated! We will be writing to them soon to fill them in on our news.

Here is their school website - http://www.onekawa.school.nz/

Swimming Lessons

Hooray! We are very lucky to have been given an opportunity to catch the bus down to the pool at Lloyd Elsmore for our swimming lessons each Tuesday for a total of four weeks. Thanks go to all the parents and grandparents who have so kindly offered to support us there. Besides having a time of instruction we also get to enjoy some time with our friends in the pool. We will make the most of these happy times!

Welcome Back to a Busy, Exciting Term Four!

This is our final term of year two and it promises to be packed with exciting learning and activities. Enjoy following our posts through the next nine weeks.

St John Visit

Niccolai from St John Ambulance came back again to deliver the second safety talk and this time the focus was on keeping safe at home and at school. The children discussed hazards found at home and at school and discussed ways to keep safe. As always, visitors to our school are complementary about the way our children behave and respond and Niccolai was more than impressed with the way everyone participated.

Capacity Learning in Maths

Our maths strand on capacity has been lots of fun as we enjoyed the practical aspects of measuring both liquids and other measures such as rice, sand and plastic counters. In groups we firstly guessed the number of spoons or cups we estimated would fill a container. Then we counted the actual number and compared our findings with others in our group.
