Mitchell's Rat, Cuteness, comes to school!!

How lucky we are having children in our class with such special pets that they are happy to share with us!! Mitchell has just recently become the proud owner of a very sweet rat that he has appropriately named "Cuteness". What a sweet, friendly and gentle little fellow he is! Cuteness spent the day with us and we all enjoyed peering at him while he slept, ate, drank and snuffled around in his cage. We got to stroke his soft, silky fur as Mitchell held him for us to touch. Thanks very much, Mitchell, for treating us to this exciting experience!

A Surprise Parcel

We received our special parcel from the amazing class of Year 2 children at Onekawa school and were so thrilled with their most impressive postcards that were so carefully written and beautifully decorated and illustrated. Their metaphors were all so varied and interesting - they used wonderful language and their descriptions made us laugh and cheer. They included a lovely letter as well as a beautiful class poem along with their completed poster which told us lots about what they did and enjoyed in Napier.

Thank you to all the wonderful children and their teachers for spending so much time and putting such effort into everything! We have put your work on display in our classroom.

Our Auckland Zoo Trip

At last the day arrived for us to embark on our trip across to the exhilarating, ever changing and captivating Auckland Zoo!! We had been counting the sleeps since Monday and keeping our fingers crossed that the weather would be good. Well, the sun shone and everything was just perfect. Our wonderful parent helpers did a sterling job of keeping us safe and focused. Many thanks to Ayla's dad, Ryan's dad, Benjamin's mum, Ellie's mum and Mitchell's mum!!

When we got to the zoo we were greeted by Frazer and Kristy who welcomed us and showed us to a grassy meeting place. We took a self-guided tour to begin with and after lunch Kristy gave us talks about the Little Penguins and about some of the native New Zealand birds in the large aviary.

We certainly packed in as much as we could and all agree that it is a fabulous, fascinating and exciting place to visit. The animals were all so very special and we particularly enjoyed getting up close to the tiger!
