Farewell, dear Mrs Parr

Today was our amazing Principal's last assembly and it was a very special one. Mrs Parr has been the most wonderful, dedicated, lovely, cheerful, caring, kind, hard working and outstanding Principal and we are very sad to say "Goodbye" to her.

At the assembly we sang Mrs Parr's favourite NZSL songs and there were a number of items. The Kapa Haka group performed, so did the Siva dance group. The Year six choir sang a beautiful song along with the ukulele band. Jennifer Wu played a piece by Mozart and the school orchestra also performed the William Tell overture. Mrs Parr was presented with a range of special gifts that she will treasure.

She showed us some of her favourite dress up costumes from over the years and Mr Webster involved us in his speech as we made up a THANK YOU acrostic poem about Mrs Parr. What a special assembly it was to honour such a beloved Lady!

Mrs Parr surprised us all by sending boxes of ice blocks for everyone to enjoy as a gift to us. Thank you, Mrs Parr!

Toy Shopping

We made our own paper money and a paper-folded wallet so that we could go shopping for all those wonderful toys we brought in today, and some! Thanks to the Wha group for being able shopkeepers and checking that we gave just the correct amount of money. We all happily entered into the role and had revelled in making those purchases!

Toys Day

As part of our inquiry learning on toys (past, present and future), we held a special toy day. It was exciting to see the variety of interesting and special toys the children brought and we placed them along the bench top in groups that were labelled - soft toys, plastic, wooden, metal and fluffy! After morning tea, we had 'show and tell' and explained why we decided to bring the specific toy and where it had come from.

The ASB Get Wise Programme

Caleb visited our class today and told us he was going to turn us into Super-Heroes with regard to recognising and saving money. We were excellent at recognising all the notes and coins ordering them according to their value. Caleb told us a story about the things we need in life and those things we want. We cannot buy all the things we want - we will need to save for them.

St John Ambulance

There were many things we saw and experienced when we visited Niccolai from St John Ambulance.  She talked to us about the three emergency services that help us to stay safe - the police, fire service and ambulance services.

Niccolai introduced various scenarios and involved the children in discussion and hands on activities. She also introduced us to the various parts of an ambulance and how it feels to use an oxygen mask.
