Food Technology Fun

Today some masterchefs in the making were put through their paces in the Technology kitchen run by Mr Rankin.  Starting from scratch, Mr Rankin demonstrated how to make the dough for the buns.  Once that was done and everyone had scrubbed up, the dough was kneaded and rolled into balls.  They were kept in a warm spot where they rose and baked into the most delicious honey coloured buns.

After getting the buns ready, it was time to make the meat patties and the children even minced the meat themselves!! With the addition of a few other ingredients, these were duly baked and ready to eat.  The technology room smelled like a restaurant and the children couldn't wait to tuck into them!!

Watch out, parents - your little chefs are going to take over the kitchen and astound you with their culinary skills!!

Buddy Class Coding

We were in for a treat when we visited Room 21!! Our buddies have been learning how to code sphero balls using an app on their iPads and they were very keen to teach us the basics. Firstly, we were shown how to programme the sphero and we had such fun giving it a go!! Some of us even got the sphero do to some jumps as well as moving in the pattern we had coded. Next, we went outdoors on to the deck area and used our finger on the app to direct the sphero. That was enormous fun as well! We hope to book them for our class soon so that we can give them a go all by ourselves!

An Amazing Art Exhibition

Every child at Point View is an artist - just look at the stunning work on display at our Art Exhibition and enjoy feasting on each of the pieces they have created. Each class based their art on a specific artist and they worked in a variety of styles and mediums. What a treat to wander around all the pieces of art and to notice how each child has interpreted the artist's work in a different way.

Our class studied the paintings of Friedensreich Hundertwasser and were fascinated by his interesting designs. He uses spirals and circles and bold colours to express his ideas and takes his inspiration from the shapes and lines seen in nature. We looked closely at a range of his work and sketched the shapes we liked. Using warm and cool colours, we painted the designs and assembled them on black paper.

Grandparent's Day

What a special day we enjoyed with our very dear grandparents and family friends on Friday! Grandparent's Day was a happy opportunity to entertain our beloved grandpas and grandmas and we put on a play based on a big book entitled "The Fun Bus". Our grandparents helped us create some paper flowers, do a word search, make a card and play a game with dice called "Roll a Grandpa". Thereafter we joined the rest of the junior school in the playground area to do some folk dancing. After morning tea we joined our grandparents in the hall and were enthralled by the many spectacular musical, dance and gymnastic displays that were presented. It certainly was a marvellous, memorable day!
