Our House Picnics

All dressed in the colours of our four different Houses we met for a House Picnic at lunch time. As you can see most of the children in Room 5 are from Waiheke (Red) and the least are those in Motuihe (Yellow). Rangitoto (Green) and Motutapu (Blue) have the same number. Even the teachers and Mr Kirkham dressed up!

The Tabloid Sports

After a special breakfast, there was another exciting part of the day for us to participate in. All the Junior children convened on the field where there were a large variety of sporting activities to enjoy. Everyone tried their hand at learning to skip, control a parachute, do relays, jump over hurdles, jump in sacks and play chasing games. Thanks to Sofia and Vicky for helping to supervise the children.

Our Junior Breakfast

It was an early rise for us this morning! All the Juniors needed to be at school by 7:30am, still dressed in our pyjamas and ready to make our own breakfast!! We had been looking forward to this exciting event all week and finally it arrived.

Our classroom was all ready with the necessary foods - there was orange juice, cereal and bread. We served ourselves to our chosen cereal and once our bread had been toasted we spread the slices with butter and jam or marmite.

It was lots of fun enjoying a meal with our classmates and being self sufficient. We even washed and dried our dishes and then we brushed our teeth and dressed ourselves. There was enough time to relax before the start of school - a really great way to start the day!

Our Monarch Caterpillar

We have only one surviving monarch caterpillar on the swan plants and it has been fascinating watching it grow.  This morning we noticed that it has stopped munching on the leaves and has begun to attach itself to a stalk and hang upside down. It should turn into a chrysalis by tomorrow.

Blake, Sachi, Addison, Michelle and Jessie Take their Turn

We have really enjoyed listening and watching as the children unpacked and showed us their paper bags.

The Lunar New Year

It was a mufti day today - a fundraiser for the forthcoming Twilight Market but it coincides with the Lunar New Year as well. This week we have been finding out about the traditions our Chinese and Korean children enjoy as they celebrate the start of the New Year. This is the Year of the Dog and it we discovered that the celebrations will take place over fifteen days. There will be lots of good food, decorations, lanterns, money pockets, firecrackers, dragon dances, festivals and parades!! A very Happy New Year!

As part of our studies, we made these red lanterns and we learnt to write the symbols for numbers one to five.

Anna, Jake, Jesse, Iven and show us their items

It was so interesting to hear about the three items each child chose to show and share. We were keen to find about more about their special treasures.

Kiwiball Fun

Marco from Auckland Baseball comes in to teach us the basics of baseball. We had some introductory lessons last year and in no time at all we were swinging and hitting the ball like stars. The fielders were so quick to retrieve the balls that Marco throws from his bucket and we were all so focused on playing the game.
