Making Seed Bombs

Our time with Mrs Hilda was again very special and filled with interesting activities that relate to learning obout our precious environment. At our school we are lucky to have the Hive where we can plant things and look at nature. Mrs Hilda taigh us how to make seed boombs and these have an outer coating of clay. Inside there is soil and a mixture of seeds. We worked with her in the shed to make these and will take them home to plant in our gardens.

Te Tuhi Art Gallery

It was lovely to go on a trip to Te Tuhi in Pakuranga! That's where the new bridge is being built and lots of changes are happening around it. We had been looking forward to seeing the large sculpture that is just outside the art gallery. It was designed by Michael Parekowhai who remembered the cuisenaire rods he had used at school when they were learning about numbers. His art work had ten different colours. We were excited because we were going into the art studio next to mix and paint. Using the three primary colours, red, yellow and blue, we mixed colours to make purple, green and orange. We filled up a colour wheel with all these colours. Bree, our teacher for the day, then took us into the entrance area where we played some games using special arty bean bags. One of the highlights of our trip was the bus we travelled on - it had been totally decorated with spider webs and other Halloween decorations! Such an exciting day!

Our final STEM Day for the year was really hands on with our sleeves rolled up! We were chefs in a PVS burger restaurant and besides that, we were also scientists and creators!
