Our New Playground!
At last our playground is ready! We have been watching every step of its progress from Week 1 and at times we talked to the people who were erecting it and those contractors who were laying the turf! Now it's Week 9 and as from next week we'll be able to play on it each Friday - Hooray! We were able to test it out this morning and all agreed that it was well worth the wait!
April Fool's Day!
It is the 1st of April today and this morning the children were surprised to find that their chairs had been placed outside and the daily timetable had been rearranged. The children were informed that there would be no morning tea today and that we needed to get more fresh air. One or two children realised that this was a hoax and that it was an April Fool's joke! They were amused by all this leg pulling and tried tricking their friends as well.
Our Minibeasts
Since Ryan showed us photos of the praying mantis at his house, we have noticed an influx of bugs, especially praying mantis'. The children have enjoyed bringing some into the classroom from outdoors. Jesse found at slug at his house and Alyssa found another praying mantis. Ryan brought a praying mantis and Mrs S found a ladybug. Thanks for bringing them to show us!
Bug Hunting in the Hive
We had lots of fun using our "scientist's eyes" to help us spot some mini beasts out in the Hive. There were lots of ants scurrying around and a cricket and praying mantis were also found. These creatures were taken up to our class for a few days so that we could enjoy a closer look.
Budgies - Team work
As part of the information gathering we are doing on our inquiry about budgies, we worked in groups of three to highlight key words. In each group there was a 'reader', 'highlighter' and 'reporter'. Here we are focusing on a page of print and using a highlighter to find those words that will help us remember the information.
