Junior Assembly

Our Junior Assembly was another celebration of the learning and the work all the children do in the junior school. Room 5 proudly presented their koru pattern artworks which were eye-catching, bold and beautiful! We were extremely proud of our amazing presenters, Kiara and Zoe as well as Jathin and Lienke. Jathin and Lienke recited their mihi so confidently and eloquently in Maori. Well done to everyone!! You are the most amazing class of artists and orators!!

Mr Kirkham Visits Us

What a happy surprise to have Mr Kirkham arrive, book in hand, to read us a story!! We chose the Maori legend "In the Beginning" as we are enjoying our Inquiry learning about the wonderful myths and legends handed down through the generations.

This is the blurb telling us about the legend -In the beginning Ranginui (the sky) and Papatūānuku (the earth) were joined together, and their children were born between them in darkness. The children decided to separate their parents, to allow light to come into the world. After this, the children became gods of various parts of the natural world.

Mahi Whai - Moari String Games

Today we had so much fun with our Buddy Class. They helped us learn about the string games that were popular with Maori children in the past. We also used some video clips to show us how to do some and by the end of our time together we had managed to get the idea of using our hands and fingers to make string patterns.

Our Buddy Class Teach us about SCRATCH

On Friday when we got together with our Buddy Class we enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine with them. They introduced us to a special coding programme called Scratch. We needed to show the computer how to make the letters of our names in the right order. Our buddies told us what to do and step by step we followed their instructions. It was tricky at first but soon we got the idea. Some of us even managed to add extra instructions to animate our names. We are very proud of ourselves for learning some coding!
