Drama with Mrs Oldham

Mrs Oldham has come back to Room 5 to delight us with a day of drama!! This time it was to enact Cinderella - everyone had a special part to play. She had many exciting activities and lovely opportunities for the children to add to their roles. There were beautiful crowns, gorgeous gowns, eye-catching waistcoats and wonderful music and video clips to set the scene. Another memorable day of imagination and fun. Thanks very much, Mrs Oldham!

Maui and the Sun Show

This afternoon three very talented actors performed an interactive version of the Maori legend Maui and the Sun. They sang, danced, used puppets and a variety of props to tell their story. We really enjoyed being involved making ropes and throwing them over Ra, the sun. There were songs and some great Maori phrases thrown in - a wonderful package!

Looking back, looking forward

Our focus this year ties in closely with the 20th anniversary of our school. Looking back at things that have happened in the past is great - all that has happened in our lives make us who we are today and shape our future focus.

To celebrate what has happened in the past six years or so, we printed some photos of the children as babies and toddlers. It was fun to guess who each child was and in most cases we were able to recognise each one.

A Surprise Visit

Today we had three unusual visitors in Room 5. They were not the two legged ones that you may be expecting - instead our welcome guests were four-legged creatures that arrived in cardboard boxes. Do the words 'carapace, Hermann, reptile' begin to give you an inkling? Well, we shall reveal all ... our newest little friends are tortoises!

They belong to Mrs Gussenhoven who works in Room 6 and she keeps tortoises as pets. The oldest of her tortoises is Tilly who is fourteen years old. The other two of her tortoises are as yet nameless - they are one year olds. We enjoyed watching them as they nibbled at some salad greens and being able to touch them was a treat! Mrs Gussenhoven told us many interesting things about how she puts them in a fridge to hibernate during winter. She made us laugh when she told us that Tilly bit her fingers because she had red nail polish on and Tilly thought they were her favourite food - strawberries!

Happy Mother's Day

Wishing all the very special Mothers of the wonderful children in our room, a lovely Mother's Day. The children enjoyed writing a poem for their mums and making gifts and a card for them.
